Nail Care for Better Nails

There’s no doubt about the fact that getting your nails done professionally by a nail care expert is worth the money if only because of the pampering that comes with it. But did you know that nails are one of the last parts of our body to receive blood and nutrients during times of illness. Therefore, nail appearance is a signal of vitamin or mineral deficiency or body changes. But that is not the whole story, and nail care is also very important.

Our nails are colorless and transparent. Healthy nails would usually appear pink because of the abundance of blood vessels under the skin. The nail’s tissue is called the matrix and the white moon-like lunula is at the top of the matrix. Below that is the nail bed, where the nail attaches to the body. The cuticle grows down over the nail bed and forms a watertight seal that protects the matrix against infection or foreign objects. Watch out for manicures or pedicures that cut away the cuticle because by doing so they increase the chance of getting a nail infection.

Natural estheticians do not use chemical nail hardeners or conditioners as part of their repertoire. These products do not stimulate growth or strength. They contain clear nail polish, which must be removed with damaging solvents. The solvents strip away the nail’s natural moisture. Before you know it, the nail’s keratin, or protein, is damaged and your nails peel and chip. Natural treatments include using aloe vera for its healing properties, in combination with oils such as primrose, camellia or almond as emollients. Fruit acids are added to soften the cuticles, allowing them to be pushed back.

A diet made up of fruits and vegetables to ensure vitamin and mineral absorption is beneficial for you and your nails. It should also incorporate whole grains, nuts and foods that are high in iron and protein. Drinking fresh-squeezed carrot juice daily will provide a first-rate source of calcium and phosphorus needed to strengthen your nails. Silica is necessary for the formation of strong healthy nails. It can be obtained by brewing up a cup of herbal horsetail and oat straw tea, or from a colloidal silicea supplement. Horsetail also is high in the amino acid L-cysteine. This amino acid is additionally found in the herb coltsfoot and contains sulfur, which is required in skin and nail growth.

Key Nail Salon Equipments

A lot of women go to nail salons at least once a month to get their hair done as well as pedicures, manicures and other services. In fact, almost all women go to nail salons in order to look good.

Nail salons are beauty services establishments that offer nail care like pedicures, manicures as well as nail enhancements. Usually, nail salons offer services intended for skin care. In the United States, nail salon establishments are about 38,000 according to the popular “Nails Magazine”. Aside from this, the people who render this kind of services are called “nail technicians”.

A pedicurist, nail technician, and manicurist provide varieties of service such as shaping and cleaning in order to make a more attractive nail, pushing and softening back the cuticles, and applying polish on the nail. There are also wide selections of nail salon equipments for services like nail dryers, pedicure and manicure accessories, along with manicure tables, foot baths, pedicure stools, unit and spa equipment among others.

Equipments that are used in nail salons differ from salons that only offer hair-styling services. The materials needed are a bit costly depending on the brands and things that the owners use.

The basic equipments that are needed in starting a nail salon business are listed below:

Manicure Table: This is the most common item that almost if not all nail salons use. It is like a desk that allows the nail technicians to work on a steady and ample surface. Normally, manicure tables have storage drawers, swivel casters and a hand rest. High-end manicure tables have additional features that include built-in electrical outlets, polish racks, as well as vents. Typical manicure tables are made out of wood laminate for easy cleaning and durability. The prices range from 100 US dollars up to 1000 US dollars. Prices are of course dependent on the offered features as well as the materials.

Nail Dryers: They are usually placed on top of the manicure table in order to allow the customers to dry their nails.

Padded Chair: This equipment is needed for pedicure spas for it is where the customers sit and relax while the nail technicians do their job. Most padded chairs also offer rolling back massages. It is fixed to a foot spa where the customers can soak their feet before having their nail treatment. Foot spas offer full feet and lower legs massages. Pedicure spas cost around 3,000 to 4,000 US dollars.

Technician’s stool: This is a low stool that allows nail technicians to have a better angle at facing the customers and doing nail treatments.

Hot KT-1016 Towel warmer: This equipment pampers the customers and makes them dry because of this warm towel. It is used for body services and facials. It has a 13 inches width, 11 inches depth, and 10 inches height in terms of dimensions.

Frozen nail and skin care products: This equipment provides a faster and quick way to dry the new nail polish. The skin product gives a soft and beautiful skin to the customer.

Beauty Equipment set: This beauty equipment set has a shaver, nail polisher, trimmer, mirror, eyelash curler, and lighted tweezers. This beauty equipment set is recommended for all customers. The equipment has a color box and has a size of 22 x 13.1 x 6.9 centimeters.

Ionic hair dryer: This hair dryer has decent design and stable brackets noise-sound 40db as well as a variable controller. It’s fast, quick and reliable. It’s probably the best beauty gadget in the market.

Health precautions for nail technicians

Every job comes with its pros and cons and being a nail technician has its down side. Sitting behind your nail table you don’t realise the harm you can to your body. A nail technician has to observe the highest standards of safety to make sure avoid infection and fungal infections.

Here are a few things to keep mind for all nail technicians.

• Wearing gloves is extremely important. Choose good quality gloves preferably ones that are disposable and lined with cotton for comfort. You can opt for nitrile gloves than the latex ones they are said to cause lesser allergic actions.

• Wash your hands with a strong disinfectant between clients and wipe them dry.

• Try not to touch the nail products directly. Products like nail varnishes and nail paint removers contain solvents that can be harmful in the long run.

• If you do touch the nail polishes and removers directly wash your hands with a Ph neutral soap. It will help in minimizing the harmful effects on the skin.

• Moisturise your hands with a good cream preferably one that has glycerine will help to keep hands soft and also clean.

• Some smells and scents can cause asthma and other respiratory diseases. So close the lids of creams, astringents, acrylic solutions after use.

• Always wear goggles and a face mask during a manicure.

• Clean the equipment well and try using disposable equipment wherever possible. Always rinse the equipment in cold water before using them. Be sure wash the equipment in warm to lukewarm water paying attention to every part of the equipment. If the equipment cannot be exposed to water always wipe with a strong disinfectant that has alcohol in it.

• Store equipment in a clean place where it is not exposed to too much dust.

• Be aware of your posture while at work. Wear comfortable clothes and footwear. Exercise your shoulders and use a chair and offers good back and neck support.

• For added opt for a good nail table. A vented nail table is highly recommended especially if you are working with acrylic nails. They help with overall hygiene and also take care of the nail technicians’ health.
